spring!

Wednesday 27 February 2013

I went to quilt guild the other night.
Thought I would be late, as I had an important appointment, but everything fell into place and I wasn't even the last to sign in!
I was glad I didn't miss it, we had quite the fun night.
Our program team decided to have a bingo night for this meeting.
(They try to fill February with something interesting, but not so important that anyone would be upset that they missed the meeting due to bad weather.)
I haven't played bingo in YEARS!...we were provided with blank cards and we filled the spaces with the names of quilt blocks.  Then the "caller" called out the blocks as she drew them and we marked off our cards.
There was a table full of prizes.
Sewing notions, threads, scissors, fat quarters, plus 2 grand prizes..  One was a box of premade squares and a coupon for a workshop at a local quilt shop.
I won a fat quarter.  One of my dear friends won the grand prize ( blocks and workshop).....SHE GAVE THE WORKSHOP TO ME!!!!
I was so surprised!
She will be away for a  winter vacation at that time so she thought I would like it!
So sweet of her!  I will enjoy it!
Thank you Jackie!
I really should call the quiltshop and let them know that I have the coupon and find out what I need.

Saturday 23 February 2013

The mister and I just came back from vacation.
We had 2 weeks in sunny Mexico.
AND we missed that huge storm that roared through our area....the daughter and grand daughters enjoyed the snow days.
I realised how bad it was when I checked Facebook and cousins and nieces had posted about the storm...and the notices from stores that they were taking a snow day.
I didn't miss it...or the cold.
But now it's back to reality...and peeling skin.
I didn't take any sewing with me...it gets mucky from all the suntan lotion.
I read a few books and a couple a quilting mags.
So now it's time to get back into my sewing....well first ..clean up all that paper from the paperpieced quilt I am making.

Monday 18 February 2013

Today is my sister's birthday.
Happy Birthday to her.
Boy, oh boy....that backgroud I had for valentine's day was really busy, hard to read and hard to get rid of.
Lol...I had to fiddle around until I remembered what to do, then, of course, the web isn't responding..but it's changed now.  Not busy at all..nice clean colour.
The mister and I went away for a little while.  Went to Cancun.  Not right at Cancun but north of Cancun.  A very lovely place.  We meet some really lovely people.  And we had a really great time.  Nice to veg out and forget all your troubles.
We took two different ferries across to a nearby island and had a great day there.
While we were away, one of the mister's hockey/golf buddies passed away.
We are getting to that stage in our lives, where friends and relatives start to pass on.
Makes you aware of reality, and how close it all is.
Enough maudlin thoughts.
I need to go sew.....

Wednesday 6 February 2013

There all a whole lotta birthdays in February in my family.
Next week is Hayley's, my first grand daughter...she will be 13 ....couldn't come fast enough for her.  A BIG milestone for her.
Then comes my birthday a few days later...and then my sister's birthday.
I also have an uncle and cousin with birthdays the same week.
I almost missed Hayley's birth.  The mister, I and friends had booked a vacation in the Dominican Republic.  We were to leave shortly and I wanted to be around when she was born.
My daughter went in hospital to be induced...and she had a very hard time, ending with needing a cesarean section when the baby went into distress.
So she had the baby and I was able to see her before we left....my daughter was to leave hospital the day we left for vacation...she didn't leave...she had a twisted bowel and ended up having more surgery and staying almost 2 weeks.
I tell you...
I was frantic when I couldn't talk to her for the two weeks.....
my son-in-law, in his wisdom, decided to tell me she was sleeping or just busy.  I KNEW something was up.
But that is 13 years ago now and that baby is almost all grown up.
They grow too fast!

Friday 1 February 2013

Eight more weeks...
that's all...
and the mister retires after 47 years of working..
and I can take over that space downstairs.

I am of two minds...

I have been waiting for him to retire so that we can do stuff together...
and on the other hand ...is he going to bug me about when I want to do my stuff?
I am looking forward to morning or afternoon walks...
but is he going to drag me out if I am reluctant to go?
Will he be bored? He plays golf and I told him to take up hockey again.  Will he be busy enough?
The kids have told me for years I am boring...
Oh wait, unless they have something for me to sew or fix for them..LOL!
Am I going to get sick of him being around?
After all he has been travelling and out of the house for at least 35 of those working years.
One big question...Will we put on weight?????
Gee, I really I hope not...
I put it on faster than I lose it and here it is ...February and I am still on my diet....will he unknowingly (or knowingly) sabotage me?
Twist my rubber arm...I'll eat it!
I usually paint in the house when he is gone.  I will now have wait for summer to have windows open. He is allergic to paint and that seems to be getting worse, it affects his eyes.
His life is really going to change...My life is really going to change!
