spring!

Friday 29 June 2012

Recognise this?  Do you have any of them?  I have 6 of them.
It's a bra bag.

Made by TIDE, I got mine at Zellers..in the closet organiser section.
I wash my bras in the washer, dry them on a rack.  But if you wash your bras in the machine and you like to wear underwire bra, the machine can snag them. The wires can will break or tear through the sides of your expensive bra.... the wire can tear through and get lodged in the holes in your washer drum..and chip the enamal...ask me how I know that!
With these little bags, you can safely wash your bras, or your other unmentionables in the washer.  The bag will hold 2 bras. If you have a large bra, then just one.     I don't know how many panties.
Put in and zip em up and toss them in the washer.  Don't have to worry about snagging other clothes with the hooks , either.   I could use a large delicates bag, but I usually have T-shirts in it.
When I have small pieces of fabric that I want to wash I use one of  these bags.  Excellent for that too.  When I cleared out my mother's house I wanted to wash fabrics that I brought home ( her cat had a VERY  bad flea problem), I used these bags .

Monday   is a holiday here in Canada ...we call it "Canada Day"...original, eh?  It used to be called "Dominion Day"....because we are the "Dominion of Canada"...but the politicians in Ottawa decided that "Canada Day" was better . ....There I go ...digressing again...off on a tanget...

What I want to say is...no blog on Monday!
Have a great long weekend!

Thursday 28 June 2012

My daughter gave me a bunch of nice king size sheets..she didn't want them because they are too crisp for her, and she now has a queen size bed.
The mister and I like our sheets crisp...so I took them.  I decided not to alter the bottom sheets, just tuck them in...oh...like we used to do.  I made the top sheets on some smaller.  Now that was a real pain.  Those sheets are SO tightly woven it was hard to sew them.  Some of the sheets I am giving to a friend who has a king bed.

My daughter cleaned out her whole linen closet and along with the sheets were these little pillow cases.......
The first one is one that I made 45 years ago for my first baby.  I used an old sheet and embroidered these little flowers by hand.  Pink and blue..back then we didn't know the sex before hand.  I sewed that whole pillowcase by hand.  Crap, thinking back, I even made a pillow.
A few years later when I convinced the mister I needed a sewing machine, I resewed it.
Over the years it grew a little smaller as I had to take in the seams as the corners wore out. Eventually I serged it.
The second, I made a few years later...hand cross-stitched and also sewed by hand.
My kids used these for pillows in their carriage...hmmm...remember them?

I saved them, an afgan my grandparents gave me, along with a couple of little outfits for my grand children.
Even though I gave them to my daughter to use for the granddaughters, I don't think they got used much.
So now, I will put them away for my great grand children. (OH BOY!)

ohhhh!   I can add to the "collection" with some more embroidered pillowcases done on my embroidery machine.

reno part 2

As I said yesterday, the lower level has been christened by flood before we even got the furniture back in.
Everything is now cleaned up..and I love my room.  It was two rooms before, the mister used one for his office and I used the other as my tv and the grandkids playroom.
Now, it's one big room...warm and inviting
I have some cabinets separating his side from mine..when he retires (soon), they will be turned flat against the wall and we will use it as one large room.

And of course being a nice new room, I notice...watermarks on the ceiling?????what?
of course...where is the laundry room?  on the first floor, in the back hall, at the back door and the bathroom.....
So what's leaking now? the washer of course..stand pipe is too small..water is backing up and spilling out.   The floor is getting wet and mouldy.   A few years ago, it was the hoses splitting.
The laundry room/back hall is taking on a funky smell.....I recognise that one!

these were in the back hall...foam is to deaden any noise of the machine when the mister is in his office..

So...again...after much agitation...the mister agrees to move the washer and gas dryer downstairs to the  furnace room.  The furnance room is huge...it's the size of my living room and dining room...and largely unused!

my folding table and dye cart

Wait...remember I said that dryer is gas!!!  So I gotta call a certified gas installer and ....and a plumber...my friend, the electrician.  The mister and I carried the washer and dryer downstairs...BOY! they were HEAVY!
Now I have a huge laundry room, where I can easily sort clothes...I have my dye stuff here under my folding table and our friend installed lots of lights for me.
So what about the spot where the machines were?

my back hall now...yes there was a washer and dryer AND a sink in there...but  no place to sort or fold clothes...ever tried doing laundry with everyone in and out that door?

We ordered 4 large pantries from one of the mister's customers..installed them ourselves...that was an education!  The walls and floors in this house are not square or level ..and no, I am not surprised..
AHHH!! I am now ahead of the trend! I have a large, beautiful, walk-in PANTRY!
And I am not going to jinx my self by saying they are no leaks, watermarks on that new ceiling....

Now, if I can only convince the mister to take out a wall between my sewing room and the next room .......I'll just keep agitating!..lol

reno part 1

Since I haven't done any sewing or quilting at all lately and I am still trying to organise my fabric ...still not all folded and put away, but getting closer to the end, I thought I would tell you of our renovations in recent years.
When we bought this house, ages ago, the basement was finished.  I use that word loosely.
It was dark, dated and somewhat dank...and cold.
Dark fake wood panelling on the bottom half of the wall...no insulation, no vapour barrier.  I could smell the must,(mould) no one else could, But I could.
Top half of the wall was drywall, insulation and vapour barrier...still nicely folded up...enough to cover the lower half of the wall..hhmmm  why didn't they unfold it?
Red carpeting ....
No wonder I could smell mould. Because the vapour barrier wasn't unfolded , moist warm air was hitting the cold wall.
Funny, too, because my furnance room is not finished, is warmer and doesn't smell mouldy!
After much agitation, I convinced the mister we needed to redo the lower room.
So we did..with the help of a friend, we tore out everything and rebuilt, rewired and redid the heat ducting.
It wasn't easy because the mister didn't take time off work and he still sat at his desk  down there, sometimes working as the friend also worked on the room.
The guys finished and went off for their annual golf trek ..and I painted..
We had new carpeting installed..put some of the furniture back...and off the mister went for a business trip to Montreal.
The grandkids are here now because school has finished..we are outside playing in the pool and I can hear this funny ticking sound...big hmmmmm
So with the daughter watching her kids, I came in to see what it was...
OH MY GOD....can you even guess what that noise was?
did you know the water pressure coming into the toilet tank can lift the lid and make it dance?  and tick!    the ballcock had blown in the tank.
sooo...how long did I hear that? ten maybe 15 minutes...how much water can pour into the newly renovated basement ?..Lots and lots..
I quickly turned off the valve under the toilet, then ran downstairs and turned off the watermain..
Thank goodness DD was here...she took over the phone..called a plumber who was here in a few minutes..followed closely by an insurance adjuster..who had recovery people here in just a few more...
The mister arrived home later that evening, he was greeted in the driveway by the insurance adjuster, who told him.."It was okay, everything is taken care of and under control"....hehehe..he didn't know a thing about it...yet!

Not too bad for the beginning of the first long weekend of summer.

Needless to say, it was one of  the hottest weekend on record that year..and we had 5 heater/dryer/blowers going and we told not to use the A/c with them going. Boy did that put a blip in the hydro bill.
Amazingly, everything but a couple of ceiling tiles was recoverable.  And my new room was in service!

Monday 25 June 2012

Last week I was reading the paper...I read the paper everyday, but this day there was an article in the paper written by Kathy Rewald.  She has a gardening show on HGTV and she often writes gardening columns for the Hamilton Spectator.
Any whoo..she wrote about another TV personality who has a blog...Karen Bertelsen and her crafting and how much work she puts into her blog.
So...I checked out her blog..."the art of doing stuff"
http://www.theartofdoingstuff.com/
...funny lady...great blog..I started following her.. I spent hours reading all her posts..and I picked up a great hint...
If you have black marker on a surface that won`t come off...try magic eraser sponge (Mr Clean or noname) and ...TADAH...Windex and it will remove the ink.
Having the grand daughters here after school, my coffee table in the family room takes a s**t kicking...I`ve replaced it once because I couldn`t get the marker off the surface and I had used a magic eraser. The coloured marker came out, but not the black permanent ink.
So when my neighbour put out a really nice table (actually 2 of them) I grabbed them and passed one on to a young mother who had a call out for furniture and kept the other for myself and passed the one I had, on to a niece.  I don't know if she got out the ink.
Well now, the new (to me) table is marred with ink and pencil crayon.
So I thought I would try it...can't hurt...and it took off the ink!..then I went to the garage door...there were little blue finger prints that wouldn't come off...they came off...I went to the front door where there was blobs of red ink....that came off....I ended up going over the whole first floor looking for fingerprints and grunge...cleaning it all with the windex and magic eraser.
I found that there was only one thing it didn't clean...A couple of years ago I had ants in the kitchen...they came in around the window casing, to get rid of them, I sprayed RAID...it stained the white wall and I have never been able to get it out.  I guess  I need to repaint...

Friday 22 June 2012

Oh dear...Last night was family dinner night .  The girls come home from school and then mommy comes to have dinner.
I told one of my neighbours that we did this and she started doing it too.  It's a nice idea for midweek...keeps the weekends free and we also have a less formal dinner than we would on a Sunday...but...I digress....
Dear daughter showed up and was a bag of dirt..I had talked to her earlier and knew she wasn't feeling well.....she was in a lot of pain, nauseous...just like a gall bladder attack!  But she had that removed last November!
I insisted she go to the hospital, so after dinner that's where we went.  And we waited for 3 hours..it wasn't too busy when we got there, but boy was it busy when we left.
They think she might have more stones..so she has gone for an ultrasound this morning.  If she has more stones, she my need a scope ...after that??who knows? time will tell!

Quilt Guild again!  And again the last meeting of the season.  And it was HOT in the room...they turned off the AC in the afternoon because the room was cool....DUH!  it's still hot out and there will be a room full of hot women..hotflashing and sweating!  we never did get the temp in that room below 80.
We have a potluck with this guild in June also, I  think I will stick with devilled eggs again...I know the mister didn't mind me making more!
I loved all the yummy salads and desserts..
I really missed all the salads at my other guild (we had appetisers and desserts).  I think a lot of people missed salads.  Don't get me wrong ...I enjoyed the appetisers, but ones that should be served hot were cold...that did spoil some of the taste....but beggars can't be choosy..
We always have soooo much food!   and even more desserts!  We quilters love to cook  eat. And tonight was no exception..there was a lot of food!
No one has stepped forth to take over Social...if no one does take over, there will be no tea or coffee...no one to co-ordinate the snacks...

Thursday 21 June 2012

It's been over a week and I have not even been  in my sewing room let alone sew, or work on the FWSQ.
I hoped to, but didn't...I did clean up my fabric stash and made a horrendous mess in doing so...I  didn't realise I had SO MUCH fabric. (gotta stop buying and start using!)  I didn't get that finished and the mister was back...next day, my sister is here for a few days.  We spent some time shopping and she likes to see all the changes to the area we grew up.... areas that were farmland are all houses, there is a new hospital being built..schools rebuilt...many changes!
She spent a good deal of time with her daughters and granddaughter here...
One afternoon her GD stayed with me while the others went out shopping.  I don't know why she wasn't in school, but we had a fun afternoon doing some crafting' and playing at the park with Thing Two after school.
My GD's , Thing One and Thing Two, enjoyed seeing their cousin again....

Wednesday 20 June 2012

94 degrees out there already and rising!   one o'clock and  it's 95 in the shade
Hahaha
I just got a phone call from a scam artist...
My sister and I played along...The caller had an heavy accent, she was obviously reading from a script......
The caller wanted to know what version of windows I had...we said windows 95...everything she asked us to do we said we did, but didn't do it...we faked it..hehehe...(we waited and waited for her to ask for my credit card #)...my sister told her that I was always watching porn...(I don't)  the caller said we had a virus...My sister said "I knew it!  I knew it.... she has A.I.D.s from watching  all the porn...maybe we should put the computer in a plastic bag to protect us from the virus.." We were laughing so hard... the caller hung up!
Gee, spoiled our fun!
I don't fall for these things...I will block the number she called from..000-000-0000....anyone who has their number blocked (to me) or uses a number like the one she used...gets no respect or time from me...so don't call me trying to sell me anything or looking for donations  (too many "sound alike" charities asking for money)

Tuesday 19 June 2012

I have been reading some of the books I brought home from the library.
One that I brought home was   "Next Steps in Altered Photo" by Beth Wheeler ...I bought "Altered Photo" by Beth Wheeler ..and then bought Photo Shop Elements......I hope to use the computer more for quilting..well..I did say "hope"......yes I said   "HOPE"
This is a new technique...for me...altering photos and printing them on fabric to quilt.....hmmmmm...could be using a whole lot of ink and that is very expensive....well I have a Canon printer...always had a Canon....mostly because I could easily refill the ink tanks....NOT ANY MORE!  now I have to drill a hole into the cartridge to refill.  I don't like to do that. messy...oh..very messy....I used to be able to drip the ink into the cartridge to refill....not any more!
I like to support industry, but gee whiz....ink is more expensive than gas....think about it...how much is in that little tiny inktank....grams....yes, grams of ink...at $25 or more !!!  I bought 2 tanks ..one colour, one black...over 50 BUCKS!!!!! for GRAMS!!! of ink...water...solvent and colour....I weighed a couple of full tanks....guess how much the tank weighed?!.
Would you believe.. my inktank weighs...brand new...52 grams.../1 3/4 oz..../or 52 mL...that's not how much ink is in there...I weighed the plastic  tank and the container it comes in  ..(I didn't want to open the package..it could dry out)...so....I weighed the tank in the printer..it weighs 28 grams..../  7/8 oz../ 28ml..(I used it a couple of weeks and there is still all the plastic of the tank).
....what do you think?    2 teaspoons is 10 mL....are we being overcharged for ink?   Gasoline is $1.24 a litre...ink is 26.99 a tank...or
1 ounce at 26.99..times 33 fluid ounces(US)...equals   wait...wait.....that is....$890.00
...I figure we are paying $900 a litre for it....and we complain about the price of gas???
!!CRIPES!!!

Monday 18 June 2012

My sister came for a visit last week...she came for the convocation of her oldest daughter....her daughter, Kelly graduated this week with a BA...so her mom and dad was there, her sister was there and her daughter was there...
so now another lettered scholar in our midst...
My sister decided to fly for this visit and what a trip she had!!!!
We need a passport now to travel between the US and Canada...the mister and I have a passport...my sister and her mister have the passport card...thinking that they would never fly....and forgetting the rules....my sis booked a flight....though much diligence, Delta helped find a solution for her and she arrived at normal time.  Kudos to Delta Airlines...
Kudos to my neice, Kelly on her grad day...I know that her mom would never miss it!

Friday 15 June 2012

Read this while humming the song" My boyfriend's back" by Leslie Gore...(oh my god, I am showing my age!)
The mister's back and there's going to be laundry..hey la...hey la...the mister's back....heheheh
just had to do that!.....
believe me...there was laundry and it stunk!!!
Sounds like the guys had lots of fun playing golf this past week..another year down and the next year already planned!
and I didn't get ANY sewing done...at all....

I went and helped inventory and cull books for our guild library....funny...we have many new books and lots of old books...and they aren't being taken out!  Even the new ones!  Don`t know why...we have a fantastic library....
Do we have too many books?...is it the time of year?...is it that there are no new "techniques" that we need to read about? Has our guild aged and not interested in new things?.....we'll see...
I brought home a stack of books to preuse over the summer...will I have time?  The Things are here for 4 weeks and have 4 weeks of different camps...
My sister is arriving today for another visit .....

Thursday 14 June 2012

I had hoped to sew all weekend long...DIDN"T HAPPEN!
I didn't even turn on my machine.  I did, on the other hand, spend a lot of time IN my sewing room.  I had decided to clean up the shelf above my cubbies...now it looks nice and neat.  Then I started on the cubbies themselves.  My oh my, have I made a bigger mess!
I found I had large cuts of fabric that I felt should be on the upper shelf.  So the shelf filled up...well, I have to group the colours together...I have some wider fabrics they need to be at the bottom of the pile.  The smaller cuts of fabric (fat quarters and such) stayed in the cubbies, but now I want them organised a little better..so.... lights, mediums and darks ..each to a cubby ...now I am into shades...blues can't go with turquoise..what about whites?  I've got white, blue whites, pink whites, yellowish whites....white on whites...
and how do I separate multi-coloured fabrics..like flowered prints...or what about the batiks?
and now, where do I put all those multi-colour  hand dyes?
I am out of room...Where did all this fabric come from????
I still have many hours of work ahead of me, sorting and folding and resorting...because if I continue..I don't have enough room for it all
And that is just the cubbies..over on the other side of the room I have a double stack of drawers..
what's in them?
 FABRIC!
MORE FABRIC!  Fat quarters, paks and squares
I don't need to buy fabric any more!
I have to really start using this up..
and I am going to have to hang a curtain in front of those shelves because .....they are starting to get damaged by the sun...
It's nice to have a bright sunny room for sewing, but ........

Wednesday 13 June 2012

Boy have I got my " dumb" on this weekend!
I got up Saturday, had breakfast, read the paper and thought ...hmmm I think I will go see one of the local guilds quilt show.
I charged the battery on my camera as I puttered around getting ready, put on my plastic flipflops and went out the back for something, came back in..picked up my keys and purse and left.   I realised, not even out of the neighbourhood, that I was in flipflops...not going back for sandals..off I went and when I got there ...the show wasn't where I thought it was...so then I remembered where it was...and again, off I went...in the wrong direction!
After a little while I realised I was in the wrong part of town and headed the right way..but now traffic was heavy..the rain was heavy and I didn't think I would make it in time...When I got home...there is my camera...on the bench at the front door!
Shortly, after I was home DD called and asked if I was going to be home...Thing One was spending the day at a local mall with a friend and her parents wanted to drop her off here when she was done...I said "Sure, that's fine"...so when Thing One showed up after her "malling" I offered her dinner, we ate and had a nice dinner conversation...just the 2 of us..
She is growing up so fast..seems like just last month she was just a little girl and I was taking her to preschool.

Tuesday 12 June 2012

Friday was a PD day so the girls had the day off school.
Thing One feels she is getting too old to be babysat and wanted to stay home.
Mommy had a home office, so she is there, but not really available.
I agree with Thing One....she is getting old enough to stay home alone.(which she really wasn't)...Time for some independance!
So Thing Two came over here with me and Thing One slept in a little...One of her friends was having a birthday party today, so she spent the day "getting ready".
So Thing Two and I did some shopping...she wanted to go to the dollar store for some craft items...which they didn't have..then we went to another dollar store and still couldn't find what she wanted.  She wanted beads that were lettered and ballons...well, not buying ballons when we have some here..
We didn't find the beads anyway...and we never checked at Micheals.  We ran some errands, then did groceries and grabbed some pizza for lunch.   MMMmmmgood ..we both love pizza.
Then we came home, I handed Thing Two the keys to open the door when I got out of the car...she tried to open the screen door and it was LOCKED  (it's a deadbolt above the handle on the screen door)....oh crap!..we came out the garage door and closed it behind us when we left..we took the mister's car and the garage door opener is in my car!  and I didn't have my keys..I thought... CRAP!!! we are locked out..."that's okay, we'll just call Mommy" says Thing Two..".Mommy does not have a key to that door" I tell her...And I am thinking Poppa has his keys with him.
I tried to open the side gate hoping I left a window out the back open..(I couldn't, and I didn't).  I didn't want to break a window...
I looked at the door and was thinking ...hmmm the sidelight (that's what that little window beside the door is called) was open...just a bit...maybe 4 inches...so I tore the screen and put my hands in to open the window...Thing Two says to me " I can't fit throught there!"
"Don't have to..."  I tell her...I slid the window open all the way and unlocked the deadbolt.
HOLY CRAP!  IS IT EVER EASY TO GET IN IF THAT IS THE ONLY LOCK !
After we brought everything in ..had a big glass of juice Thing Two says....."doesn't Poppa have a key to that door?"
I went to the stairs where she had thrown the keys to see what keys we had taken...his or the spares...and good enough...We had the key!...oooopps...now I have to fix the screen!

Monday 11 June 2012

That's it for one guild ...last meeting of this season..
We had our pot luck and there was a ton of food. The Social committee decided that we would have appetisers only...There certainly was a good variety ...I was one of the last few to eat and there was still a lot of food...I have no idea how my devilled eggs were...they were gone and I didn't see any others.  Ah well, I can make some more if I want some..I didn't listen to the Social committee and I brought a fork and spoon with me...lol...there was pie! and people without flatware either had to eat with their hands or go without..  I had some pie...lol
Throughout the year the guild had various groups exchanging ATC's (artist trading cards)..these are cards that are embellished with various things, then given or mailed to the recipient.  (These aren't some of them..I found these pics online, just to give you the idea.)
The group showed them all off tonight.  I didn't even  think of taking any pics... and I forgot my camera anyway...
They were quite neat..everyone's was different...some ladies made the same card for everyone and other's made different cards.  ATC's will be done again next year.
Block of the month was drawn.  Each month a new block is featured and you have all year to get it done ...then at the June meeting winners of the block are drawn.  One year the same woman won almost all of the months, lol.. and again tonight some people won their blocks more than once...and good for them!
I made my donation to the 50/50 draw....it's always just a donation!..lol..I never win!

Friday 8 June 2012

Today I spent the day cleaning up my sewing room again.  All the stuff I pulled out to make those little running shoes for Thing Two's doll had to go back away.  I had taken out template material to make templates  of all the shoe parts.  I had eyelets out...I tore apart the room looking for a punch set I knew I had..ribbons...glues...foam sheets..cardboard...such a mess for such a little pair of shoes.  But Courtney loves them...I will make more.
With the mister gone for a few days, I want to do a lot of sewing ...so the other stuff must be put back for now.
I took some time to make my devilled eggs for guild...yum...they are good....

After I cleaned up some, I took some blocks that I had....just enough to make a little doll quilt for Thing Two's doll.  Boy that kid is making off like a bandit!

I still haven't sewn..
Then looking at the shelf above my cubbies...I thought ...I need to refold all that fabric...it's just gotten messy..or I never had it neat.
So I have spent hours folding the fabrics over a very large ruler.  And I still am not finished.
But it looks real purdy!
I actually know what I've got up there now!

Thursday 7 June 2012

Gee, I wish I wouldn't try new things....I tried the "new" blogger template and now I can't seem to go back to the old interface..
Old people do not like change!...at least not one I am not used to.
Showing my age I guess!  I am finding I don't like change...want things to stay the same...lol...doesn't work that way...
I don't like some of the new music..the new artists...wait..some I do like..Adele...yeah her songs are torch songs ( hurtin'), but I like her.(set fire to the rain!)..and (I find it hard to believe) Lady GAGA....why she is so off the wall I don't know, because she can sing...and of course the KING of all! ELVIS  and the Beatles...Roy Orbison...KD Lang..and many more, I won't say because it ages me.....yup...eclectic
that's me..
Well, I guess I will have to get used to it..the new interface is probably easier, but now I have to learn something else.  Sometimes it's hard to keep up....new hardware..new software...forget my phone..HAH!..for years I had this old boat anchor that I called a phone...pay as you go...half the time I was out of time and hadn't made any calls.
Well, now I have the mister's old apple 3..he has a 4 ( his boss likes toys!)  I hardly use my time... 3to 5 minutes on my plan...hmmm..gotta start talking!  Sometimes  I have to ask the grands for help with the phone...or the mister...I am not used to all the bells and whistles!
Thing One wants a phone..she is coming up 13 years old and feels she needs one...she has an ipod...she can text with that...she wants my phone! lol..When the mister retires, that will be our only cell...Mommy says ..."NO PHONE YET!".

Wednesday 6 June 2012

The mister and I went to the granddaughters' recital tonight.  As usual, they were superb....but then I might be just a slight bit prejudiced.
This dance company is very good....I LIKE the fact they don't dress their dancers as little tarts/sluts.
The first dance company Thing One was in did that...the costumes were extremely suggestive.  Not really the sort of dance costumes you wanted to see on a small child...and I don't care what the excuse.  My daughter took her kids out of that company and went to another...one not so eager to display them as little tarts.
Camera were not allowed in the theatre, so no pics.
But I did get pics of the little tennis shoes that I made for Thing Two's doll.  She was thrilled with the results of my efforts.   Not too bad for the first time.  I will make some more for her doll using a few different techniques I think would work.

Tuesday 5 June 2012

Boy did I luck out today.
I was to take the grand daughters to Mississauga for their rehearsal today.  Daughter had a meeting today, she normally can't get out of them...judges and arbitrators generally frown upon excuses like " I have to take my daughter to rehearsal"...these appointments she has could be made a year or more in advance, or longer.  But it was cancelled at the last minute, and she was able to take them herself.
She had to wait for Thing Two's rehearsal right to the end....3 little girls didn't show up.  There is a language barrier with their Mom.  I hope that they show up for the recital tonight.  Thing Two would be disappointed if they cancel her dance because only 2 girls show up.
Thing One went back to school after rehearsal, but Thing Two wanted to stay home with me....which I said okay to.
I watched a bunch of videos on the weekend..videos on making doll shoes...so last night I made a pair of flip flops for her doll.  She has a new 18" doll and she is quite a bit smaller (slimmer) than her other 18" doll.
She brought her over today and we measured her.   I took off her clothes and made a pattern of it...then we started making more shoes for this doll.  Right now we are waiting for glue to dry.

I have finally finished the 2 quilts I took from guild outreach.
The pink quilt I just "quilted in the ditch" following all or most of the seams, then "McTavished" in the outer border and the two inner columns.  That went really quickly and I used up quite a bit of thread that I had from previous  projects.
The dolly quilt....that one I had to think about.  Over all quilting would not suit this darling little girl's quilt.
I stitched-in-the ditch around the borders and around the oval, then I stitched in the ditch in the rows of checker board.  I stippled in the blue oval,  then I stitched rows in the white "wallpaper" behind the doll.  I then outlined the doll, highlighted her apron, and put curls in her hair.  I didn't do anything to her face....
I finished the outer border with McTavishing.  Applied the binding and handsewed it. and " VOILA!"  another done!  I'll take these 2 back in 2 weeks for our finally meeting in June....also a potluck!.....quilters like to eat as much as they like to quilt!

  June already!
Boy is next week going to be busy..The girls have their recital in a nearby town on Monday and I have to take them.  They will miss the whole day of school and Thing One is having national testing she will miss.  I don't know why the schools do these tests at this time of year...all the dance studios have their summer recitals in June...ahh..not my worry...
We are attending said recital on Monday, also...they have another show on Tuesday.
The mister is getting ready for his annual golf trip...I can't believe how many years they have been doing that!..
I have guild this week and it's our final June meeting with a pot luck.  The  Social committee has decided that we will only have finger foods....I will miss all the salads..that is the best part of a pot luck , I think.
I usually bring meatballs, myself...I had to come up with another idea, so I thought...devilled eggs!  The mister wants me to make him some devilled eggs before he goes away.  I got them in the pot for him now...he loves devilled eggs!
I was thinking of painting while the mister was away. He is allergic to paint, his eyes all swell up, I try to do it when he is away...or have my son-in-law paint for us during the winter months when work is slow.
I spent the last couple of days vacuuming up all of MissT's fur..boy is she shedding.  I brush and brush her and brush and vacuum her, but she is still shedding.  I guess it's all the warm  hot weather we are having.  In her 8 years I don't think she has ever shed so much..and her fur is still thick!
But, I will probably sew all the time he is gone.  I have the Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt to work on, which I haven't done anything in a while..numerous other WIPs ( work in progress ), but they are FIFI's (find it and finish it)...and I have a bunch of king size sheets that I am going to resize to queen.
So I have my work cut out for me this week
